ELT Refresher

Narrated refresher on ELTs, ELT(DT), Cospas-Sarsat and emergency frequencies, with quiz and certificate.

What it does

Eighteen narrated slides on emergency locator transmitters: 121.5, 243 and 406 MHz, the Cospas-Sarsat system, ELT types including the distress-tracking ELT(DT), EASA (CAT.IDE.A.280, CAT.GEN.MPA.210) and FAA (14 CFR 91.207) requirements, coding and registration, testing, batteries and inspection. Includes an EASA requirements checker, a quiz and a certificate of completion.

Individual app: each person uses it with their own account; your progress is saved to your account.

How to use it

  1. Open the Course tab and press ▶ to start the narration; use ‹ and › or swipe to move between slides, or tap a dot to jump to a slide.
  2. Set the narration Speed, tick Continue automatically if you want the slides to advance on their own, and press Show transcript to read the text.
  3. Open the Requirements checker tab and enter the MCTOM, the date of first individual CofA and the MOPSC to see the ELTs required; press an example to try it.
  4. Open the Quiz tab, answer all 12 questions and press Check my answers; review the explanations and press Try again if you need a better score.
  5. The quiz opens once every slide has been on screen for at least the normal length of its narration; if you speed up the narration, the next slide starts when that time is reached.
  6. Open the Progress & certificate tab to see the slides viewed and your best score; once all slides are viewed and you score 80 % or more, the certificate carries the full name of your portal account.
  7. Press Download certificate (PDF) to save your certificate as a PDF file, or Print certificate to print it; use Print notes for the course notes and Download backup (.json) to keep a copy of your progress.
